Q50 Red Sport 400 Throttle Body Upgrade: Ported VR30DDTT Throttle Bodies Explained
Share
Every VR30DDTT, in the Q50 3.0T, Q60 3.0T and both Red Sport 400 models, uses a pair of electronic throttle bodies, one for each bank. They sit between your charge pipes and the intake plenum, so every bit of air the turbos make has to pass through them.
On a stock car that's fine. Once you add a tune, intakes and more boost, the throttle bodies become one of the simpler restrictions to remove, because you can open them up without changing how anything bolts in.
What we do to VR30DDTT throttle bodies
Our ported VR30DDTT throttle bodies go through three steps:
- Ported. Each bore is opened up approximately 1–2mm to increase the area air can flow through.
- Polished inside. The inside of the bore is polished smooth. The polish is on the inside, where the air moves, not on the outside of the part.
- Ceramic painted. The outside is ceramic painted by hand in the color you choose, so they match the rest of your engine bay.
They bolt on in place of your factory units.
Why the plenum matters too
A bigger throttle bore helps most when the opening it feeds into isn't smaller than it is. That's why our ported VR30DDTT plenum has its throttle body openings enlarged approximately 2mm, and its lower runners ported approximately 3mm. If you're planning both, do them at the same time; you'll have the plenum off anyway.
Want the full intake path done? The VR30DDTT complete ported manifold and plenum package covers the plenum and the intake manifold, and you can add the throttle bodies on top. Read more about the manifold and plenum in our VR30DDTT ported intake manifold and plenum guide.
A note on paint
The throttle bodies are the only VR30DDTT parts we paint. The 3.0T intake manifold and plenum are plastic, so they're ported and keep their factory finish.
Fitment
- 2016–2026 Infiniti Q50 3.0T and Red Sport 400 (VR30DDTT)
- 2017–2024 Infiniti Q60 3.0T and Red Sport 400 (VR30DDTT)
For the 2014–2015 Q50 and Q60 3.7, 370Z or G37, you need our VQ35HR / VQ37VHR throttle bodies instead. Check which engine your Q50 or Q60 has if you're not sure.
FAQ
Do I need a tune?
They use your factory electronics. We recommend your tuner reviews the throttle and airflow tables after install so the ECU is working with the new airflow.
