How to Keep Your Cruise Control Buttons (and Map Switching) with an Aftermarket Steering Wheel

Swapping to an aftermarket steering wheel is one of the best changes you can make to how your car feels. But it comes with a catch: the factory cruise control buttons don't come with it.

Why the buttons matter

For many drivers, losing cruise control is an inconvenience. For tuned cars, it can be bigger. Many tunes use the cruise control buttons to change maps on the fly. When you remove the stock wheel, that ability goes with it, unless you relocate the buttons.

What a relocation bracket does

A relocation bracket gives the buttons a new, secure home near the wheel so you can reach them while driving. The right bracket lets you choose where and how they sit, so the setup works with your wheel and your driving position.

Why we make ours from forged carbon fiber

Many relocation brackets are metal. Ours is 100% compression molded forged carbon fiber. It's rigid enough for daily use and has a finish that fits a clean interior. [link: forged carbon cruise control button relocation bracket]

Mounting the buttons

The button holes are not pre-drilled, which lets you mount the buttons in whatever orientation you prefer. The bracket comes in a 6x70mm bolt pattern, and we can drill it for 6x74mm at no extra cost if you email us.

Some tips when drilling carbon fiber:

  • Use a sharp bit and go slowly.
  • Put masking tape over the area and a backing board underneath to reduce chipping.
  • Wear a dust mask and eye protection, since carbon fiber dust is an irritant.

Before you order

Check your steering wheel hub's bolt pattern and make sure it matches. If you're not sure, email us at Info@initiatemotorsport.com before buying.
